Helical Wall Ties

The purpose of wall ties is to hold the inner and outer walls of a cavity structure together. Helical wall ties are versatile fixings that function well in many building types.

What are Helical Wall Ties, and How do they Work?

Helix shape ties are high-strength tying members. The stainless steel rods offer outstanding rust resistance. When they hammer into building materials, the spiral shape makes them rotate. As they turn, the helix screws into wood, brick, concrete, and masonry walls. The ties also bond well with cement or resin. The peaks and troughs of the helix form an outstanding key for adhesives.

Are Helical Wall Ties Suitable for New Build uses?

Helical ties are suitable for tying timber-framed buildings. Hammer one tie end into the wooden frame and bed the other into the outer brick wall.

You can use helical ties in thin-joint blocks and other wall systems where the inner and outer mortar joints do not align. The cavity wall ties drive straight into gas-concrete blocks. The other end of the tie lays in the outer leaf bed joints as the brickwork goes up.

Our new-build helical ties suit a cavity width of up to 150mm.

Can Helical Wall Ties be Used for Tying Existing Walls?

The need for cavity wall tie replacement stems from defects in the existing tie system. Poor building habits may result in the walls needing more ties. On the other hand, the ageing process may cause rust issues with the older mild steel ties. In either case, a remedial tying system can solve the problem.

First, drill small pilot holes to fit helical ties in an existing building. Use the unique fixing tool to drive the ties into the holes using the hammer action of an SDS drill. The hammering forces the helix to screw into brick, masonry or concrete. Once set, the helical wall ties grip the walls on each side of the cavity.

Use our 9mm helical ties for tying existing walls. The ties suit cavity widths of up to 225mm. We keep a wide range of sizes in stock for you to buy with fast UK delivery. Speak with a technical team member for free expert advice on using helical wall ties for various uses.
